The labels I used to get for committing to a 40-hour work week were laughable! The fact of the matter is, my role didn't require more than 40 hours once I mastered it. So, I made the decision to ignore culture instead of allowing the influence of other people's opinions to lead me down a path that produced burnout. I promised myself that if my performance slipped, I would adjust to accommodate the additional hours. Well, I didn't have to. I won the work-life balance war and I won at work throughout my career because of the choices I was willing to make. The same is possible for you.
